Janet sighed as once again the ironing pile towered above her, she wished for excitement when she married her husband Steve. But it seemed that as soon as she entered the marriage contract that the excitement was all but a distant memory.

It was her birthday the following day, but as if Steve would remember. her birthday had been etched in capital letters on the calender for weeks, but there was not a whisper of any celebrations coming from the sofa as Steve yelled for his tea. Janet always thought that when she became Steve's wife that they would remain as in love as they had always been. A tickle on the sofa would always lead to a whisper of sweet nothings and a sweaty passionate romp....or four. If only Janet and Steve could be like the couple next door, Sarah and Andrew. They seemed happy enough, they could be heard making passionate love through the walls almost every night and from pretty much every room. The public displays of affection they showed each other were what Janet yearned for but while Sarah and Andrew would walk hand in hand, whisper sweet nothings to each other, Steve would not even notice her if she died her hair pink! Ohwell there was always the birthday lunch that she had to look forward to with Sarah.

The following day when Janet awoke she was pleasantly surprised to see that Steve had remembered her birthday after all. Maybe it was the fact that the calender that usually lives in the hallway had conveniently made it's way into the fridge on top of the lager stash. Steve had brought her a beautiful 'To My Beautiful Wife' card, although she tried not to show that she had noticed the cut price sale sticker he had left in the back from the clearance shop in town. Inside was a handwritten note from Steve with an address written on. Janet thought back to the romance and sparks that flew between them before they were married and allowed herself to hope that maybe the romance was not dead, dress to impress underneath made her feel she was in for a night to remember. All too soon her daydreams were broken by the doorbell. It was Sarah from next door with her new baby daughter cooing from the push chair. She Invited them in and they sat and talked for ages about how romantic Andrew was and also about the mysterious note in Janets card. All too soon it was time for Sarah to leave, and for Janet to finish off the housework so she could get ready for the suprise evening. She gave Sarah's daughter a playful tickle under the chin and said her goodbyes.

Janet decided to wear the red dress she had never had the occasion to take the price tag off for, it was low cut and tight, showing off her beautiful curves. She thought it STeve doesn't notice me now he never will. with the last coat of mascara applied Janet grabbed her coat and car keys and made her way to the address on the mysterious note. She made her way down a country road which opened up to a beautiful looking country manor house hotel. Pulling up next to Steve's familiar car, she felt bad for feeling the ways he had the previous day about Steve and his lack of romance.

Steve took her by the hand and led her to the entrance of the hotel. Inside they were greeted by a very handsome young man who took their coats. Steve took the man to one side and she heard him whisper something about the discount voucher from the local paper. The man nodded and took something from him, typical Steve, even on her birthday he was saving money. Oh well it seemed like a nice place, Janice thought as she eyed up the expensive decor and heavily draped curtains. Steve came back and they were both led to a room with about 20 half naked women and men. She was aroused by the thought that she and Steve were about to delve into something new and exciting when she heard a familiar voice. She turned around to see Sarah from next door with her modesty only protected by a man she had never seen before. Janet looked at Steve with a questioning look only to see him arguing with the man from the reception area. He rushed back in and dragged Janet out by her arm looking rather embarrassed. She stopped him and in a hushed whisper asked him what was going on. Steve showed her a torn discount voucher, which read "COME ALONG FOR A NIGHT TO REMEMBER, BRING YOUR WIFE FOR A TASTE OF SOMETHING NEW, CALLING OUT TO ALL SINGERS" then at the bottom was the address of the manor. It turned out that there was a misprint and the bottom. The advertisement should have read calling out to all swingers not singers. Well at least she knew what was keeping Sarah and Andrews love life alive. This would tickle Janet for many birthdays to come and she realised that she was definitely happier with her life the way it was and to know that annoying and unromantic as he could be she was happy that she had Steve all to herself.
