Lacy's Secret

Lacy and Alan started dating about three months ago. Lacy met Alan while shopping at a local mall, and Alan just so happened to be the manager of a shoe shop. Lacy was looking for a pair of shoes for her little niece of only two years of age. Alan showed her to some adorable pink glittery shoes sold by Adidas brand. Alan could not help but notice the great outgoing personality of that Lacy portrayed. She made many funny comments about the different brands of shoes, that just made Alan laugh so hard this stomach hurt!

Lacy actually asked Alan if he were single, and bluntly stated that they should get together some time. Alan decided that Lacy was just adorable, and accepted her proposal.

Now, after three months, Alan has started to notice a dramatic change in Lacy. She began to seem like two different people at different occasions. Some days she would be her natural adorable self and crack jokes, talk continuously, and seem as if she exerted three times the amount of energy that most people did on a normal day. Other days, Alan would visit Lacy to find her lying in bed, sobbing, and threatening him with suicide attempts. He would stroke her hair and try and calm her until the somewhat awkward mood would pass.

Later, Alan spoke with Lacy's mother and told her " I adore Lacy, but she seems to have something wrong with her". Her mother then told Alan that Lacy had been diagnosed with Bipolar Disorder, and that she refused to take her medications.

With this new information, Alan went to visit Lacy once again to find her rocking back and forth in her closet! His heart began to race as if he were going to have a stroke! He was so afraid to confront Lacy with the issue. He finally said "Lacy, we need to get you some help". She screamed at him and told him that she would never go back to a hospital facility again. She said " they will lock me up and never let me out". Finally, he thought to himself, and knew that she had to go to the hospital or she could possibly hurt herself. He was confused on how to handle the situation. He then asked Lacy if she liked feeling the way she felt. Lacy replied " No, I hate being this way". "Then why put yourself through all of this?" Alan asked. Lacy knew that she needed help and finally agreed to go to the mental institution.

At the facility, Lacey was treated with medication for her disorder. Alan, then discovered that after Lacy's father had died of a stroke, she had before attempted suicide by taking a full bottle of pain reliever. The doctor seemed to know Lacy well, and what exactly to do for her.

Alan told the staff "I adore Lacy, but can I still have a relationship with her?". They then gave Alan information that pertained to Bipolar Disorder to better help him understand. He learned that Lacy was experiencing extreme high moods and extreme low moods that would alternate between the two. He learned that people with Bipolar Disorder can live normal healthy lives with therapy and medications to keep the chemicals in the brain balance.

Lacy was eventually released from the hospital with the terms of participating in out treatment therapy. As Lacy approached Alan she asked him if he hated the fact she had Bipolar Disorder. Alan simply took her hand and stated " I adore Bipolar Disorder".
