Cheryl had been internet dating for a couple of years now. In spite of having a lot of fun and meeting some interesting friends, she had been decidedly unsuccessful at finding a partner. Lengthy conversations on-line turned into phone calls and, inevitably, some would turn into a brief encounter in a coffee shop or restaurant. Cheryl had been sorely disappointed when someone with whom she instantly clicked on-line had turned out to be someone for whom she had no physical attraction. That was the issue with internet dating. Yes, the pressures of dealing with appearance and body language don't exist but, eventually, if the relationship is to move into the real world, there does have to be some sort of attraction.
Thinking about her last relationship, Cheryl couldn't help but remember how handsome Chris had been. While the guys she met through internet dating always had nice eyes, great hair or a comfortable smile, Chris had been the whole package. Wonderful personality and a body to die for, she had to admit. They had parted amicably but Cheryl had realized early on that she was comparing every guy she met through internet dating to Chris. It really didn't seem fair but she knew she was doing it - and the guys just didn't live up to her memories.
Cheryl and Chris had met at the gym. He was a personal trainer and Cheryl was in need of instruction. She was a novice when it came to working out and using all the machines and such. She had never given her weight a thought when she was young but, moving into her thirties, she had discovered that she needed to work harder to maintain her figure. So, she had joined the gym on the recommendation of one of her friends and she had drawn Chris as her trainer the first day. Cheryl had been so smitten with his good looks and charm that she didn't remember a thing about what to do when she visited the gym for the second time! Fortunately, Chris had been available that day too and he'd given her a refresher. At the end of her workout, it was undeniable that they had felt an attraction for one another. Chris had apologized for being abrupt but, on the spot, he'd asked Cheryl to have dinner with him. She accepted and their relationship had blossomed from that very first date.
As Cheryl sat at her computer, answering messages on one of her dating sites, she made a vow to herself. "The next guy I meet, I am NOT going to compare him to Chris," she said out loud. Then, laughingly, she added, "Well, at least I'll try!"
